Sorry for the delay-I have gotten a little behind on the blog. I'm back now! So we finished up our time in the cute little town of Chartres and packed up to head to our final stop...Paris!
We arrived in Paris Thursday afternoon and got a "panoramic tour" from Phillipe while riding in our bus. We stopped by the Eiffel Tower and got out for a "photo op". Me, the Lockharts, Lauren, and the Hendron's decided to do a little sight seeing and would get ourselves back to our hotel. So-we embarked on a mission to do all and see all that "gay Par-ee" had to offer. We took one of those boat tours on the River Seine. It was an absolutely beautiful day! The French were in disbelief that it could possibly be so warm and beautiful in February! We brought the weather with us, what can we say? So as we cruised down the river, we saw the Eiffel Tower peering out over the city, the planetarium, many very cool bridges that span the left and right banks of Paris, the Louvre, The Musee de Orsey, and of course the sight demanding of all one's attention in it's grandeur...Notre Dame!
After our boat ride, we went back to the Eiffel Tower as it was now approaching sunset to try and get to the top to witness a beautiful sight over Paris. The lines were very long because the weather was so great and none of us wanted to venture the stairs to the top (which of course was a pretty short line :) We waited and starved as we saw people coming into the line prepared with piping hot crepes and drinks. We will know what to do next time! So -we finally made it into the elevators like a bunch of sardines as we headed to the top. First stop was the second deck where we got off and had a wonderful view (the best, I think!) You can see right out over everything especially when visibility isn't so great. Fortunately for us it was a beautiful clear night! We got back in teh very tiny elevator and headed all the way to the top. We saw the city lit up around us as we peered through the fence surrounding us. All in all it was ok. I could take it or leave it. It was cool to see it and get some pictures, but I don't know that it was worth the wait in line...especially as it got colder!
So after our Eiffel Tower adventure, we took a cab to the Musee de Orsey where we saw works from many famous artists...Van Gogh, Gaughin, Matisse, Manet, Monet, Renoir...and the list goes on. It was cool-I was amazed at the fact that the paintings were right there in the open, and anyone who wanted to touch it could physically reach it! Of course people knew that they were not supposed to do that, but still...you know there is always one person who will do something stupid. Anyway-the museum was huge and we didn't have much time before they closed. We had a quick bite to eat there as we were starving and then a quick look.
After we left the museum, we embarked on a journey to walk to our hotel (of which we didn't really know excatly where it was that we were going)nevertheless we continued. "Only 2 more blocks! Wendy replied" "Only 2 more blocks". Wow- those were the longest 2 blocks of my life. Now it was a little chilly and my legs were numb, and did I mention that we had already had a full day of traveling from Chartres and walking throughout Paris? Well, we finally made it to our hotel, which was in the Opera region, around 10 PM or so. Where's my bed!!!???? Another tiny room...thankfully not for much longer.
