Well, we have had another wonderful day in France beginning with a visit to the Motherhouse of the Oblate Sisters. We had Mass in the Crypt where St. Leonie Aviat and Father Brisson are laid to rest. What a wonderful experience of unity and communion with holiness! How happy they must have been to be present with us during our celebration of the Mass and the Holy Eucharist!
After Mass we got a highlight tour of the Motherhouse which included the Chapel, illustrated so perfectly in a Salesian way, the room which houses all of the relics and personal items of Mother Chapuis, Father Brisson, St. Leonie Aviat among others. We saw the clock that Father Brisson built with its brilliance and precision. The clock still works and is accurate. The sound was set to mimic the human heart and "ticks" or beats around 70 beats per minute. Amazing! Father Brisson was a genius.
After lunch, we made a visit out to the Tuillery which used to be a farm and place to make/burn tiles. This is the place where Father Brisson fell through a hole/well and prayed to God to help him out of the hole. He promised that if he was able to get out of the hole that he would build a shrine there to have forever. Father Brisson was able to pull himself out of the hole using an umbrella. So as promised, he built a "tomb" for Christ in the hole which was below where he would build a Chapel. The winding, narrow staircase leads down to Christ where he is watched by a Guardian Angel.
After the Tuillery, we made our way back to the Motherhouse for sung Vespers. We were joined by the rest of the Oblate Family that were present for the Brisson celebrations. It was simply beautiful as we sang God's Glory in multiple languages together. So many different countries and so many different languages could all come together in one voice. Apparently it was a first at the Motherhouse.
Our stay at the Motherhouse was way too short! I would have loved to spend more time with the Sisters and seen their apostolates. A reason to come back...
I will leave you with a final thought... I may not have understood much of what was being said in French...but you don't have to understand or speak French to understand their Spirit...
